Serge Mouille

Serge Mouille collection

Serge Mouille is especially known for his light fixtures, but graduated as silversmith in Paris, at the School for Applied Arts. Together with Gilbert La Croix, who also graduated there at the same time, they started to work. Serge Mouille started his own metallurgy studio in 1945, whereas at that moment his design commissions were mostly voor railings and chandeliers. In 1953 Mouille got a commission from Jacques Adnet to design light fixtures. Since that specific moment, Serge Mouille dedicated his whole life solely to light.

Regarding his most famous designs, we can count “Oeil”’ (1953), “Flammes” (1954) and “Saturn” (1958). One of the constants in his designs is the black painted metal materials, elaborated in a minimal way. Mouille strives for kinetic, sculptural beauty, causing a sense of movement inside of space.
